7 MW Hydropower plant, Portugal
|Total installed capacity||7 MW|
|Number of turbines||1|
|Modular flow||0.40 m3/s|
|Net head||443 m|
The hydropower plant, Teixo, is located in the catchment area of the Águeda River, a tributary of the Vouga River. The plant uses the flow of Teixo – hence the name – and Dornas creeks, the restitution is made in Souto creek. Both the dams and the power house are located in the small municipality of S. João do Monte, in the borough of Viseu, Tondela. This ‘run-of-river’ type hydropower plant consists of two small weirs, with no storage, a 330 m concrete channel, a 2.15 km low pressure pipeline, a loading bay, a 2.1 km penstock and a power house. In 2011, three new water intake systems were built: one gravity and two pumped. This improvement increased the average annual inflow and the annual energy production. All pipes are buried in order to minimize any aesthetical or environmental impact.
Start of production was in 2009.
