30 MW Hydropower plant, Georgia
|Total installed capacity||30 MW|
|Number of turbines||3|
|Modular flow||10.06 m3/s|
|Net head||196.8 m|
The hydropower plant, Mestiachala 2, is located in the Svaneti region, on the Mestiachala River.
The plant has two intakes, one at the Mestiachala River and a second one at the Chalaati River, a tributary on the right side. Both are approximately 250 m upstream of the confluence of both rivers and are feeding the water into a common basin between both river beds. This basin works as a sand trap and as storage at the same time. Mestiachala 2 is part of a hydropower cascade.
The project started producing clean energy in the spring of 2019.
